LBJ Surrenders

Johnson’s tone was that of a man who was being brave in defeat. Stop the bombing? Beg for peace talks? Every other word in the speech was ‘peace’. In the end he came to a rousing finish and announced that he wasn’t going to waste his time running for another term as president. LBJ, the boogie man of the Peace Movement was a pathetic, whipped puppy, mistaking his own political downfall for that of the nation he led.
